Wrapping Up: Part III Getting your finances in order
December 3, 2007 by Jean Murray
I’ve been putting it off, I admit it. This is the classic example of “Do as I say, not as I do.” I write about financial subjects, and keeping your finances in order, but I haven’t been doing a good job of keeping the financial records for my business in order. I don’t know whether I will have a profit or a loss, which means that I don’t know if I’m going to have to pay more taxes. That’s not good.
When I first started writing my business startup books and doing some consulting, I had plenty of time to do my books. It’s easy to do the books when you don’t have much of either income or expenses. Now that I’m doing more freelance writing and blogging, it gets away from me. You know what I mean. So I’m devoting some time to getting the financial stuff in order, following my own advice.
So, do as I promise I will do. Wrap up your financial year by getting your finances in order. I wrote an article about this subject that you might find useful. It’s on my writing blog, The Thriving Writer: Five Steps to a Record Keeping System That Works.
