To What Purpose

by jim on April 13th, 2008

Recently I have seen a number of TV shows and articles concerning physical fitness and longevity of Boomers and the retired.  I’ve been thinking that it is all very good to live longer and be healthier during that time, but to what purpose?  My chances to live a healthy life well into my 90’s is highly probable, but what are you going to do with the time?  Certainly, the U.S. economy cannot support a high population of retired people.

Barbara Walters had a show on recently where scientists predicted amazing progress with stem cells to preserve our bodies well past a hundred years.  They were predicting steady progress in this direction over the next 30 years.  If I’m going to live for another 60 years I need to get back to school and find a new job.  On the other hand the U.S. economy is not tuned properly for all those extra workers.

So, I ask the question again.  If you expect to live 12 or 15 decades, what are you going to contribute to the world in those last 80 years or so?

I watched the ABC show “Live to 150 ,,, Can You Do It” and I enjoyed it. However I was a little disappointed that they did not talk about anyone who had already lived past 150 years. I have researched people who had lived 150 years or more, such as Li Ching Yun, who died in 1933 at the age of 256 years. As I was researching these supercentenarians, I came across a few of these people that are still alive today that have surpassed 150 years. Of these incredible people, my focus is now on a living, breathing immortal whom I fully believe is nearly 2,800 years old.

This 2,800 has lived a full and fairly busy life all of his 2,800 years and I expect Li Ching Yun did too. One advantage of the time they had was to watch thier investments grow to the point where they were able to enjoy them. Each has had many wives from which they have created many families with. Raising each family has kept them both quite busy.

My intentions in searching out these extraordinary men was to find out how these amazing people survive for so many years. I fully believed that if we could model the lifestyle of these supercentenarians, we too could live a much longer and healthier life style. I have summarized what I have found on my main blog: Ben-Abba.com which I intent to publish starting with my first book: “Secrets of an Immortal - An Eyewitness Account of 2,800 Years of History”.
