“The Last Lecture” Professor Randy Pausch Dies
Baby boomer Randy Pausch was a computer science professor at Carnegie-Mellon University. Last September he gave a lecture at Carnegie-Mellon as part of a series titled “The Last Lecture.” Today he died in Virginia, at the age of 47.
As he started the lecture he announced that he was dying of pancreatic cancer. Then he went on to talk about “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams” and his lecture was an immediate phenomenon. A few months ago, a book about The Last Lecture was published by Hyperion and there is, of course, a website called The Last Lecture. It was also an immediate hit, and I’m sure it will touch you as it toued me. I watched the video on YouTube last fall and I was both sad and happy. Dr. Pausch taught all of us about how to live as if you are both going to die and as if you were going to live forever. He also taught us how to say goodbye.
The world has lost a great human being and is a lesser place because of his passing. I have included a YouTube video of the entire lecture; it’s over an hour long, but well worth watching. (To see the lecture, click on the title of this article to get the “permalink.”)
