Small Business Boomers

Seniors and baby boomers do much of their shopping online these days. 
 It’s far different from the early era of online shopping when many were wary about giving their credit card over the Internet.  Also, many were concerned about paying shipping charges for the items they ordered.
As I surveyed the statistics and wrote the post, Seniors & Boomers Have Become Avid Online Shoppers, I wondered, “Why the change of attitude?”

According to statistics, seniors (particularly those over 65) are rapidly becoming some of the most avid online shoppers on the Internet.  Boomers aren’t far behind.

According to articles I’ve come across recently, seniors are more inclined to be in better health if they continue working after retirement age.
  Also, if they’re working at complex jobs, their minds stay sharper.
Many boomers have reached retirement age or soon will be there.  This information about working and health may be a reason seniors/boomers consider their own businesses, whether starting one that will grow to the hiring of employees or be the expansion of a hobby into a home business.

Boomers develop business also because they do not want to feel that they are useless to their family and society, and boomers are good entrepreneurs because they are mature and have lots of experience in life.
How true!  Boomers want to feel useful and don’t want to be a burden to their families.  They desire to be contributing members of society as long as they can.

I confess: My husband and I met via Match.com. This was almost 10 years ago, when people were still a little skittish about online dating. We both had been online since the early days of Mosaic and early Internet, so we were comfortable with the medium and we were old enough to be cautious. Today, there are almost too many online dating sites.
Match.com is still around, and at 15 million people it’s still doing well.
