There are two schools of thought on pennies:
School 1 – I’ll call it the “old school” – Exemplified by an elderly lady I know who cannot pass by a penny anywhere – on the ground – on a table – in a store — without taking it.  She says that every cent is valuable and that the accumulation of all those 1 cent pieces adds up.  She’s obviously a child of the Great Depression (1929 variety), when people got used to hoarding things and stuffing money in mattresses.

Maybe That’s Why They Call It “Fall”

Things are falling this October, and I don’t mean leaves. It seems that Fall is the time of year for stock prices to fall. For example:
1929 – October 29 – Black Tuesday:

1987 – October 19 – Black Monday – the largest percentage decline in stock market history.
1999-2001- Dot-com Bubble Burst – Although technically the bubble “burst” in March of 2000, the events of September 11, 2001 contributed to its demise and the stock market took a big loss on September 17, 2001, the first day the market opened after September 11.
