Small Business Boomers

Where do Boomers find ideas for small businesses, either those they operate from their home or from a location outside the home?  What can you do that doesn’t involve a great deal of expense?

Draw upon your talents and interests:
Quilters might start giving lessons and selling their wares.
Knitters could do the same.  Or they might open a small shop of supplies.
Writers could go in a variety of directions…blogging, writing a book, giving talks and lessons involving writing.
Carpenters could scale down from a big business and do mainly small scale repairs they could handle themselves.

How many times have you moved? I counted 12 different homes in 4 cities since I graduated from undergraduate school. I have lots of experience in moving. If you have moved many times and you are an expert at packing, unpacking, dealing with moving companies, and finding places for all that stuff that doesn’t fit in the new place, maybe you should consider being a moving consultant.

People of all ages need moving consultants:

Young executives and their families
Empty-nesters who are are down-sizing
Seniors moving to condominiums

I remember when many companies did not shut down over the holidays; these days lots of larger companies do. But what about small businesses? Shutting down is not an option for many small businesses, particularly in the current economic slowdown.
