Especially in today’s world, with the economic situation in disarray and retirement money often much less than expected, change is inevitable.  The change can destroy or buoy us.  We can meet the challenges as an adventure or  fall through the cracks in the sidewalk.

This can be a time for boomers to explore the small business options, those that don’t involve a great deal of investment or overhead, but will give them some much needed income.   This is not to say it will be easy, finding avenues of income that will make up for that lost.  But boomers are up to the challenge!

What are you doing to adjust to change in today’s world? 

(Remember, President Obama said we were going to experience “change” with him!  It may or may not be what you expected, but change it certainly is.)

Boomers are gravitating into that category called “elderly” as they pass age 65.  The plan includes counseling on end of life procedures for Boomers rather than on medical ones to continue life if someone in an administrative position deems you unworthy to receive care. In other words, if your prolonged life is not cost effective…your productivity, when compared to cost…you fall into the cracks.

Will our country, and business owners, gravitate toward the young? With extinction of those deemed undesirable in the scheme of things? 

Just something to consider as you go about your business and your aches and pains increase.

Many things are being done these days that are contrary to “the way things are done in the USA.”  Yes, change occurs and often change is good, but the invasive control that is seeping into our lives is something to become aware of and watch…even act upon.  It will affect boomers, their children and grandchildren, their lives, their health and businesses. 

It behooves us to become informed, and if becoming informed and aware is “overreacting,” I’d rather err on the side of being too informed than lamenting, when it’s too late, “Why didn’t I know about this before? Why didn’t I say something?”

There are many proposals in Congress that could curtail our freedom and affect boomers’ small businesses.  Some may never pass, some may get changed for the good, and some could take effect before we’re aware.  So why not keep up to date so we may make our voices heard whether for or against proposals?

Yes, this is a concern.  However, there are far reaching implications that could greatly affect your business and life.  Is this simply a ruse for Obama and those surrounding him, including key Democrats, to gain control of our lives, our businesses, our communications and our freedom? 

Some considerations:

• What happens to purely online businesses?
• What about a business that is partially in a walk-in one and online?
• What about blogs and web sites that help promote your business?
• What about e-mail communications between business people, friends and family?
• Will only those persons and service providers be singled out who don’t agree with Obama’s policies?
• Is this a way, under the guise of security, to silence opposition and control what people do and say?
• What about bill paying and banking online which have become imperative to most businesses and in our personal lives?
• Will this curtail Internet conferencing and training?
• What’s next?  Control of cell phones, text messaging, and land phones under the umbrella of “security?”

We live in a world much dominated by the Internet nowadays.  Yes, there are security concerns to be considered.  However, anyone who takes away the freedom we now enjoy to correspond, communicate and conduct business, controls our lives, our freedoms, our rights.

What we all wonder…are these simply suggestions?  Or will those raising children be required to follow the state’s agents’ advice.  Will this advice ignore parents and grandparents’ moral, ethical, and religious view in favor of state approved ones? Often these conclusions about childcare are made by people who don’t have children and have never raised them.

Many grandparents are raising their grandchildren or are involved in helping in multigenerational homes and in babysitting situations.  So your care of your grandchildren could be questions oand regulated.

I do not understand what Obama is doing concerning Medicare. We are on a fixed income and Medicare is to our advantage for health care. Monies are taken out every month from our social security to pay for our Medicare part A and part B. I trust we will not be affected. Nothing is clear to the public. Just keep Medicare for those who have it and have been paying into it!!!

Jean had discussed “savings” actually meaning cuts in health care for Medicare patients and concluded:        I see an erosion of benefits in the name of savings.

I agree with Jean. More “savings” will mean less health care for Medicare recipients. It’s possible recipients may even have more taken out of Social Security each month (it traditionally increases each year) to pay for their Medicare, yet the care received will be less. As Obama has stated, give seniors a “pain pill” instead when the health care costs are too great for specific treatments.

Obamacare is scary. Many of the officials talking about it haven’t read the complete 1000+ page proposals in the House and Senate. Obama admitted in one of his talks that he didn’t know all that was in it.

What seems apparent is less care for everyone, especially the elderly and infirm, and more government control over what care we do and don’t receive. Also, in one portion of a proposed bill is government control over how parents raise their children. Government officials will be able to come to your home and “counsel” you on raising your children and grandchildren.  What happens if you don’t agree?

There is no need to rush into this change so rapidly, except to give the government more control over every aspect of our lives before everyone knows what happens. As one learns more about these proposals, it seems to be a politically driven plan for Obama and government control over our lives, not one to give us better health care. (They’re going to compile records on every aspect of our lives and even be able to debit our bank accounts by one proposal).
