“Maintain” Trumps “Grow” For Small Business Owners

As you might suspect, small business owners are worried about the economy.  Many would like to grow, but they figure they should focus on maintaining what they have.  A recent survey, reported in Small Business Trends, reveals the three-fourths of small businesses are planning for growth over the next few years, but they are worried about the economy and the results of the upcoming presidential election, so they are biding their time.

My recent poll here on Small Business Boomers showed that that readers were evenly divided in their opinion about whether Barak Obama or John McCain has the best small business policy.  In another survey cited by Small Business Trends, 38 percent of the business owners surveyed said the economy will be a major factor in deciding who to vote for in November.

I guess we are all just holding our breath, to see what happens to the stock market, and in the presidential election.

I think many of us are in the same position with our personal finances. We’re just trying to maintain what we’ve got — and holding for the wild ride in our retirement accounts, hoping that when this is all over we’ll at least have minimal losses.
