Keeping the WOW Factor in Your Business
In a small business everything depends on you, the small business owner. If you don’t have an every day enthusiasm for your business, you can’t give it to anyone else. In fact you should think of selling ou or finding a way to get that wow factor back.
Often times enthusiasm and physical energy go hand in hand. Maybe you need a real break from your business to recharge. Maybe you have a health problem. Have it look at. You would be surprised what a little exercise can do for your outlook. I could go on, but you get the idea.
I worked for the General Electric information Services Company for 8 years. When I was interviewing for my next job in the IT industry someone asked me why I stayed with them for so long. The answer was easy. Every day was a unique challenge. I went on to other IT organizations, but I never found one that offered the broad range of challenges I found at GE.
The moral of the story is that each of us must be in the right business to maintain our enthusiasm for that endeavor. I would not be good selling computer hardware. It offers no broad range of challenges. I know, it bored me. So, if yo haven’t got the wow and don’t have any outside issues, find something that gives you that wow. At that point you can pass it on to others.

That’s true, Jim. I worked five jobs in one company, and always felt like I was learning something new (well, maybe not every day, but often enough).
I think another lesson to be learned is that if you hate dealing with the finances, and can afford a bookkeeper, source it out. The reduced stress will let you throw even more enthusiasm into the things about running a business that you truly enjoy.
