Small Business Boomers

Have you seen your dentist lately?

by jim on February 4th, 2008

As a small business person your health is vital to the success of your business.  I’ve beat this horse before, but the health of your teeth is now understood to be more important than ever before.

One of the big questions on longevity calculators is about flossing.  Seems the germs that cause plaque on teeth do have a negative impact on your heart.  Who knew?

Another little known thing is that you can poison yourself with your own toothbrush.  You know, you brush your teeth and some portion of the bacteria from inside your mouth stays on your toothbrush.  The microbes grow.  The next time you put the toothbrush back in your mouth, bingo, you’ve infected yourself.  Works even better when you have the flu or something.

Preventing this cycle of infection is simple.  Stick your toothbrushes in the dish-washing machine every week or so.  Don’t have a machine.  Soak the brushes in some boiling water.

It’s also a good idea to have a different tube of toothpaste in the house for every member of the family.  A variation on the toothbrush thing.

As my father used to say, “Be true to your teeth or they’ll be false to you.”
