The B5Media network:

December “Holiday Movie” Contest

I was talking to someone the other day about holiday movies.  I enjoy this time of year because I love to watch the old and new movies we don’t see at other times.  Are your favorite holiday movies the ones you remember from when you were growing up, or are they more recent ones?  Let’s talk about holiday movies!  I’m excited to announce a special December contest about holiday movies.  Here is the deal:

Write me a comment to this post telling me your favorite holiday movie and why you like it.  I’ll run all the comments through my random number generator and come up with two winners.

Each winner will receive a 2-month gift certificate to Netflix, my favorite movie place.

The contest starts immediately and ends at 11:59 on Monday, December 15.  Comments must be submitted by that time.  The contest is only open to those in the U.S.

You must post your comment with a movie name.  And you must provide your email address so I can contact you.  No movie name, no email address, no winning entry.

prnphotos075997-a-christmas-story-h_nc.jpgJust to get you thinking about holiday movies, this photo may be familiar to many of you Baby Boomers, from a Christmas movie that was released 25 years ago.  The house has been restored to its original condition (like it was in the movie) and it is now a museum.   Know which movie it is? (Here is a hint: Mr. Bumpus and his turkey-eating dogs lived next door.)

“Scrooged” with Bill Murray is my favorite holiday movie. It shows how love and people evolve and warms the heart. Many a good belly laugh to be had in this one too!

“A Christmas Story”, definitely. We watch it on TNT at least three times every year during their 24-hour marathon!

I also love “White Christmas”. Who could resist Bing Crosby & Rosemary Clooney!!!

My favorite holiday movie is “Christmas Vacation.” Clark W. Griswold is exactly like my late father, and his sentences that always start with “…you see, kids…” brings me back to my own childhood. I watch this movie religiously every Christmas as a tribute to my father.

I love lots of Christmas movies, but two that I consider Christmas regulars but are rather non-traditional are: The Thin Man and Three Days of the Condor.

i like rudolph the red nose reindeer, however, in the winter of 83-84 i saw a movie with a banshee in it. that’d be it. don’t know the title and can’t locate it, but i enjoyed it.

I love the Christmas story because I was a little kid in the mid 40’s and early 50’s and it reminds me of the way things were when I was a child. I still remember my mother bundling my little brother up just like the little brother in the movie, so wrapped up that he could hardly move.

“The Little Drummer Boy” animated cartoon. When I was a child, I ran to the bathroom and locked the door when the little lamp was run over and killed. My mom had to coax me out to watch the rest of the show. It helps me to remember that when all is lost — we still have hope.

“A Christmas Story” happens to be not only the movie with the turkey-eating dogs, but also my favorite holiday movie of all time. While many movies romanticize the holiday, my own memories more closely approximate the events in “A Christmas Story.”

It is really hard to pick just one. I like A Christmas Story (your house is from that movie) and make my husband leave it on our bedroom TV all night on Christmas Eve. I also like Christmas Vacation. I had watched that movie over and over before I realized where Ellen’s hand was during the scene where the SWAT team comes in after the kidnapping. Right now the Home Alone 2 DVD is just finishing up. That’s a good one too. And White Christmas, that is a classic. ABC Family has made some good made for TV movies in recent years. We watched Christmas Every Day this morning.

We have repeatedly watch The Ref. Denis Leary is a burglar who takes Kevin Spacey and Judy Davis hostage. He has plans but the bickering this couple does drives him crazy and instead of robbing them, he ends up helping them learn to live together in peace. It’s a small gem.

I love A Christmas Story and It’s a Wonderful Life as much as anybody but you just can’t beat Santa Claus Conquers the Martians for good old-fashioned holiday fun! This movie has it all — a really stupid concept, dreadful acting, dime-store art direction, a giant robot and even Pia Zadora.

I have about a dozen old favorite Christmas movies that I watch several times a year, but I have to say that It’s A Wonderful Life is by far my favorite. I love Jimmy Stewart and the saying is true,”No man is a failure who has friends.” Each one of us do touch many other lives, whether we know it or not.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. When I was a child, I can remember being so scared when the monster would come on. I would cry because I thought Rudolph and his friends would be killed or eaten. I would even close my eyes, but still wanted to watch it. My son and I love watching Christmas Movies all year round!
    Thanks for the chance!
