Boomer Creativity Contest Winner and Some of the Comments

The winner in a minute, but first, my observations:
I was overwhelmed by the number of people who have great creative ideas and a desire to express those ideas.
For example: When I got divorced, my ex burned all of my poetry (along with other things). I am just now getting the creativity flowing again. This would help me gain that once again.
I have about a dozen suspense novels and a great screenplay rattling around in my brain…..I’m always being told that I “should write a book”……perhaps I should!!
(I know the feeling – I have a fiction book and …read more

Trivial Pursuit Turns 25 – Trivia Fans Remember

Trivial Pursuit Turns 25 – Trivia Fans Remember

Trivial Pursuit, the game that launched the trivia craze, is 25 years old.  Remember when it came out in 1983?  Everyone was playing.  It was a love-hate kind of thing – you either loved it or hated it.
I loved Trivial Pursuit – my family hated it, because I  would always win.  I am a huge trivia fan, and a huge Jeopardy watcher (more about that tomorrow).
Now Trivial Pursuit is on DVD and on the web (on Pogo.com, the online game site).  Things change, but they stay the same.

I especially liked the Baby Boomer edition.  Of course, my Gen X children …read more

Boomer Creativity Contest – LAST DAY!

Boomer Creativity Contest – LAST DAY!

Children are fantastically creative because they don’t know they aren’t.  Adults are not creative because they know they are not.

The Boomer Creativity Contest has generated many great ideas – I’m motivated just reading them and I wish all of you could win!

Some more inspiration from Brenda Ueland:
“…that creative power is in all of you if you give it just a little time; if you believe in it a little bit and watch it come quietly into you; if you do not keep it out by always hurrying …read more

Who is Googling Who? Find out on Ziggs

Ziggs.com is a new social networking site that sends you an email when someone Googles you.  So, why should you care?  Well, I might want to know who is checking up on my, I guess.  Susan Gunelius comments on this new tool on her b5media site, BrandCurve.
I get 6 or so invitations to LinkedIn, FaceBook, Twitter, every day, and I am too busy writing to check up on them.  I tried Twitter for a while but people either talked about stuff like the cat that caught a mouse or they were doing blatant advertising.
Have you tried any of these sites?  …read more

5 reasons Baby Boomers go back to school

5 reasons Baby Boomers go back to school

var iamInit = function() {try{initIamServingHandler(234,351,134181,”http://pis.picapp.com/IamProd/Resources/Css/css2.css”)}catch(ex){}}()
I went back to school at age 53 to get a PhD.  I thought I was too old, and that I would be learning alongside kids.  I was surprised to find that most of the people in the school were baby boomers, just like me.  And we aren’t alone.  According to the University Continuing Education Association, over 60 percent of the students in public undergraduate institutions and 50 percent at private schools are “non-traditional.”
Why do baby boomers go back to school?
1.  They have been “downsized,” a nasty little euphemism that doesn’t tell the whole story of …read more

It’s “Talk Like a Pirate” Day!

var iamInit = function() {try{initIamServingHandler(234,156,113321,”http://pis.picapp.com/IamProd/Resources/Css/css2.css”)}catch(ex){}}()
September 19 has become (somehow) “Talk Like a Pirate” Day!  Great idea.  I know people in the quilting community on The Quilt Show who are pirate types and others on b5media who have participated before.
The original Talk Like a Pirate site has lots of activities and interesting thoughts.
I’m celebrating by playing pirates with my grandchildren (complete with hats and swords!).  How about you?

I’m on the Road to Retirement !

I’m on the Road to Retirement !

I turned in my resignation at my “day” job yesterday and I’m counting down the days.  I’m going to stay on part-time for a few months, but I will have much more time at home to do the things I want to do.
Why am I retiring now, when I’m only 60?  Three reasons:
1.  I want to spend more time with my grandchildren and the rest of my family,
2.  I want to travel, before I have to do it with a walker, and
3.  I have many, many books to write and other income ideas to work on.
Here’s my short list of …read more

Ball Jointed Dolls for Baby Boomers

Ball Jointed Dolls for Baby Boomers

This week the Third Annual Ball Jointed Doll Convention is being held in Austin, Texas.  There is a place in this world for any hobby or interest, and the Ball Joint Doll phenomenon (BJD) is proof.  Dolls have been around for centuries, of course, but moden technology has now given us, from Japan, Korea, and China, resin-based and anime-inspired dolls in various sizes.  These dolls are anatomically correct*, poseable, and customizable – you can change hair, eyes, hands, etc. The typical doll might cost between $500 and $1000, but collectible dolls might be as much as $5000.  (Of course, we …read more
