Businesses for Boomers – Moving Consultant or Specialist
How many times have you moved? I counted 12 different homes in 4 cities since I graduated from undergraduate school. I have lots of experience in moving. If you have moved many times and you are an expert at packing, unpacking, dealing with moving companies, and finding places for all that stuff that doesn’t fit in the new place, maybe you should consider being a moving consultant.
People of all ages need moving consultants:
- Young executives and their families
- Empty-nesters who are are down-sizing
- Seniors moving to condominiums
A moving consultant would help with all aspects of a move, including helping find a mover, assisting with cleaning out, packing, transition (while goods are being moved), and unpacking and putting everything away.
There are Certified Moving Consultants, but these are salespeople associated with moving companies. I found an organization called Senior Move Specialists who assist seniors in moves, downsizing, relocating. The company says the specialists must be “caring, ethical, organized” individuals.
So many seniors don’t live near relatives who are able to care for them. We had this problem when my mother had to move, first from her home then from her apartment. It would have been great to have a move specialist to help her deal with all the issues. As it was, my sister and brother and I made many trips back and forth to Ohio to deal with these moves.
If you are interested in helping others in a great business, you might consider learning more about being a moving specialist.
