Baby Boomer Travel: A World Full of Experiences

I love to travel, and I have many places I want to see and experience.  So I have been exploring possibilities.  They are limited only by your imagination.  Do you want to:

  • Go fishing,  hiking, golfing, boating, hot air ballooning?
  • Learn some history, literature, religion, photography?
  • See a festival, play, or musical event?
  • Enjoy a dude ranch, a cruise, or an eco-adventure?
  • Have an extreme hiking, skiing, rafting, canoing adventure?
  • Stay in a castle?  Or a hostel?

Over the next few weeks, I’ll show you some fun and unusual vacation websites I have found.  I have not been on any of these tours or experiences, so I’m not making recommendations on anything.  If you want more information on any of these places, do your research.

To help you choose, here are a few questions you might want to ask yourself:

  • What time of year do I like to travel?  If you are retired, you can take trips any time, not just in the summer.  Rates are lower in the spring and fall, and if you want to travel over the holidays you may find some good deals.
  • What level of luxury do you demand and can pay for?  Some people are happy with budget, others prefer good accommodations (nice hotels), while still others demand luxury.  My husband and I like very good to excellent, but we can’t afford the luxury stuff.
  • What kind of places do you like to stay in?  Do you prefer Bed and Breakfast Inns, motels, large chain hotels?
  • Do you want to travel independently or do you prefer group travel?  This may depend on the country, of course.  If I were traveling in China, for example, I’d want to be with a group, but in most places in Europe, I would feel comfortable going on my own.
  • Do you have special needs – dietary, disability, etc?  You can find tours and special accommodations for whatever need you have.  I’ll do a post on these later this month.

What else would you put on your list for travel requirements?

Active baby boomer travel is on my list of requirements. The more experiences the better.

Although many of my travels are independently planned, for those “big” trips or cruises, travel insurance is a must. I’m also a big fan of medical evacuation insurance. If I suffer an injury at Machu Pichu or cruising in the Norwegian fjords, I want to know that my insurance plan will bring me to the medical facility of my chosing, not theirs.

    Happy travels,

You have a truly excellent blog! I was wondering since we have just opened a new “channel” devoted to Travel Reviews
    on our website wwww.babyboomreview.com
whether you would consider cross posting some of your reviews or an excerpt so we can bring them and you to a wider audience?
We would be open to other suggestions.
    Best regards
    Larry
