Another 25-year anniversary - THIS is JEOPARDY!

by Jean on October 9th, 2008

It’s difficult to believe that the game show Jeopardy! is 25 years old.  As I mentioned yesterday, I am a Jeopardy junkie, and I have been for years.

Actually, I am more than an addict - I was a contestant on Jeopardy, in 1988, four years after the show aired.  I’ll make a long story short - I tried out and was selected as a potential contestant in Tampa, Florida, when I lived there, but never got called. I tried out again in Davenport, Iowa, in July of 1988 and I was qualified as a contestant again.  This time, I was called almost immediately, and I went to California, along with my 3 children, my mother, and my mother-in-law.

The show aired just before Christmas in 1988.  You might see my episode on The Game Show network some day.  I can’t believe it’s been 20 years since I was a contestant.

I am going to date myself and say I remember the original Jeopardy, with Art Fleming.  I remember watching it in high school and thinking I really wanted to be on Jeopardy.  It took me a long time, but I finally achieved my goal.

Here is a Jeopardy episode from 1979:

I believe a clarification is in order. It’s Alex Trebec’s “Jeopardy” that’s celebrating its 25th. Jeopardy first aired as a daytime gameshow in the early-mid 70s; Art Fleming was the first host. I remember watching it in college; and still watch it today. Problem is that despite my life-gained knowledge, I still can’t clear the board on my own.
