Age Discrimination
I write the occasional for the local newspaper, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, so I tend to read the paper. Today there was another letter about job discrimination against those over 45. It’s real it happens all the time. I have a neighbor who is a head hunter and he told me outright that employers tell him never to send a resume of someone older than 45. It’s against the law, but very difficult to prove.
That leads me to a question. If you and I have a good chance to live to be over 100, what are we going to do about it? There are only so many jobs as WalMart greeters.
If you are just going to complain about age discrimination, I have little sympathy. If you are going back to school to learn new skills then I feel better about you.
I would be interested in hearing about your personal age discrimination situation. What did you face? How did you tackle the situation? What have been the results?

My wife and I have experienced age discrimination first hand. She is 57 and I am 59. Both of us have had good jobs and have excellent skills. She has just attained employment in an entry level position and I am still looking.
The combination of our move to North Carolina and the depressed job market here has made finding any work at all a struggle.

I have filed an age discrimination suit against my former Employer, ( Large Phama Co..) we will be going to court in 2010. They do not want to settle out of court, so I am praying a jury will make them pay. They could have settled for a lot less than it is going to cost them in Lawyer fees
Thanks for the comment. If there is one person in a large company who is being discriminated against, there will likely be others.
