Customer Service – It’s Important

Customer Service – It’s Important

The importance of good customer service can never be downplayed.  A satisfied customer can never be downplayed.  Creating good customer relations, when there has been a negative experience, is imperative, too.
This is important in these days of social media, when poor customer service can be touted all over the Internet, on blogs and in social groups.
I found a very informative article on this topic, The Customer Service Oxymoron, by Chrysty Beverley Fortner at Women on Business.  You might find this thought provoking as you consider your customers…and being a customer.
What tips do you have for maintaining good customer relations?

How Will Obama’s Health Care Proposals Affect Boomers?

How Will Obama’s Health Care Proposals Affect Boomers?

Nothing has been formalized nor signed into legislation yet about President Obama’s proposed health care program, which he and some members of Congress are trying to push through in the next couple of weeks without anyone reading the entire 1,000+ pages.  Even Obama admits, in interviews, that he doesn’t know all that it contains.
However, much discussion has evolved regarding it’s effect on Boomers, or those 65 years of age and older.  Some research indicates that people in that age category will be denied health care procedures and medication because they’ll be considered not productive enough to be worth the money …read more

Etsy.com, Small Biz & More

Etsy.com, Small Biz & More

Many small businesses consist of some type of handcraft and those on Etsy.com all have a connection with crafts.  Here’s a place for small and home businesses, as well as the hobbyist, to promote and sell their wares.
Some may start out here and, like Keara Sexton, develop a small business, OAK,  on Newbury Street in Boston.  Although Keara isn’t a boomer, you can learn from her.  Her mom, Karen, a small business owner, in Nashua, NH, helped Keara start her business, and now is learning from her daughter about social media and marketing in a techie world.
To learn more about Keara and Karen’s …read more

Notes on Customer Service

Notes on Customer Service

To remain in business, boomers must be very knowledgeable about their customers’ needs and learn (if they haven’t already) how to deal with customers and being diplomatic.  I’ve written two posts at Home Biz Notes that would apply to small businesses of most any type, in addition to home businesses.
Concentrate on Customers, Not Yourself
Remembering the Needs of Your Customers
Do you have any thoughts about postive and effective customer service?

Why Would Boomers Start a Small Business?

Why Would Boomers Start a Small Business?

In today’s economy, why would baby boomers be looking at starting a small business, whether it’s a home business or one with a store front?
Many in the boomer range, born between 1946 and 1964 are getting laid off, either because they’re among the higher paid employees or because the business they work for is closing.
Why would they consider a small business?

They need extra money
They want something to do
They’re looking for a business opportunity that doesn’e involve a great deal of investment
Their retirement funds have been cut in half or no longer exist due to the current economy and government programs.
They find …read more

How Will “Cap & Trade” Affect Boomer Businesses?

How Will “Cap & Trade” Affect Boomer Businesses?

What shall small businesses do if the “cap and trade” tax goes into effect?

Do you realize that according to estimates, this tax on energy and energy use will cause an average increase per family of more than $3,000 per year?  Can families and small businesses endure it in this recession prone era?
Obama and the Democrats, as well as others promoting the global warming agenda, are trying to push this bill through as quickly as possible.   (They’re ignoring that more and more scientists say glocal warming is  over emphasized.)   They are using scare tactics to push it through Congress and impose this tax …read more

Should You Pursue One or More Businesses?

Should You Pursue One or More Businesses?

In the course of developing a small or home business, many opportunities may come about.  They’re not necessarily all at the same time.

Some business ideas grow out of a hobby.
Some may be a venture you explore with a partner
Some may be a new idea with low initial expenditure
Others may develop over the years as your circumstances change

Do you think an entrepreneur should follow one path of business regardless of circumstances, pursue it and hope you’ll experience success?
Do you think an entrepreneur should be aware of changing times and circumstances and be willing to change as necessary?

Who Are the Boomers?

Who Are the Boomers?

When we talk about Small Business Boomers, we may wonder what defines them.  Who are they?  Generally they’re considered those born right after World War II until 1964.  Those born shortly before and after fall into the fringes and have some of the same interests and habits.
Jean Murry, former blogger here, has a nice description of boomers and their characteristics and activities.  This post is located in the Small Business Boomers pages, titled, What Are Small Business Boomers?
I think you’ll find this interesting reading.  Are you among them?
